Well, dear bloggers, I have been without my own computer for sometime. Checking emails is limited as I have to do it on my phone (or at work--shhh). The upside to being out of the cybersphere is that I can read real, printed, paper materials. Now, I have a bit of a book and magazine addiction. from an early age I loved to read (anything!). As a child i loved Roald dahl books and my mother would pick one up for me when she did the grocery shopping (probably to stop me from wanting to go with her-- cos that meant the groceries cost more due to my frequent requests for this or that). As i grew older, unfortunately my reading attention turned to Point Horror and Sweet valley. Escapism. I was never into the classics. But that's ok. My teenage read fests also used to consist of my nans weekly 'Bella' and 'take a break' magazines. Nothing like a bit of weekly trash. Thankfully my reading habits have developed somewhat and I no longer turn to chick lit and family dramas for enterainment! So, here's what I'm currently reading:

I had to cut my last post short because I was supposed to be getting ready to go out. ooops.

So, back to last week. I went to Little Sparrow and indulged in some hand made felt and some homemade cake and started my simple, but gorgeous, felt fish mobile. It is basically two pieces of felt sandwiched together with a blanket stitch and then stuffed with clean wool. so easy! I met some lovely ladies, and learnt of some new great blogs to read :)

Little Sparrow is a Steiner Inspired handwork shop and I will sign up for more of their classes I'm sure! Hurrah!

The weekend was so beautiful. Saturday was a perfect day for going to the Farmers Market, making Minestrone Soup and then lazing in the park with my girls and watching the world go by. And to do some more stitching!

I managed to finish my mobile. Quite proud of it, actually.

On Sunday, we visited a beautiful new baby girl-- and took her a new tag blanket to play with. It was so nice to see her and her Mama and Papa.

The weekend finished off by another trip to a park on Sunday night with friends and stumbling across some musicians. We played bocce, drank beer and listened to some amazing indie-folky music.

I wish everyday was the weekend :)

I've had such a fun, crafty week! lots going on. On thursday I went along to Little Sparrow and joined in on a felt toy making workshop. it was si much fun-- and Started this hand dyed felt fishy mobile.

Huge Granny...

I'm making a big Granny square.

Granny squaring is the only way I know how to crochet. I learnt at Brown Owl's a couple of years ago. I prefer to make things on my own, but whilst leaarning it was great to be part of a group and learn to crochet together. I haven't been to brown owls this year-- but i might try and get along to melbourne queer Stitch and bitch. I'm also starting felt toy making classes at Little Sparrow next week.

Goodness, we are lucky in nmelbourne to have so many crafty chicks and clubs to go along to!

The best playdough ever....

it's been wet and rainy. What better to do than play with playdough. Not that I did today (not a work day) but I probably will tomorrow. I have the honour of working with other peoples' children-- and playdough is one of the most popular items in my 'tool' box....

You will need:

· 500 g of plain flour
· 150 g of household salt
· 8 tablespoons vegetable oil
· 3 tablespoons of Citric Acid
· Food Essence or essential oils
· Food colouring

Method:

· Bring 250 ml water to a boil
· add 5 - 8 tablespoons of vegetable oil and stir into the dry
Ingredients.
· Knead thoroughly.
· Add few drops of essential oils or essence and few drops of food colouring. Finished!

(Store in airtight container and place in fridge- Will last for weeks)

Variations: Add food essence or essential oils to make aroma dough! Warm up in the microwave for 30 seconds for lovely warm dough! Hide objects in the dough for children to find!

I love how hyggelig (hew-gur-li) sounds. I love how it feels. This blog is a record of the events and the moments as I search for more hyggelig in my already pretty wonderful life. Welcome, nice to see you here.

So, the things that make me feel cozy and cheery inside are spending time with my little family, travelling, eating, reading good books, crafting, walking barefoot on the beach and hugs. I'm a big fan of 'em.

After a wee argument with depression last year and some events that make you take stock and say 'whoa life is short' I decided i needed so more hyggelig in my life and got really into crafting. My partner bought me a sewing machine for christmas and I've been trying to sew ever since. I'm learning to be more gentle on myself and have realised that we all need to be gentler on eachother, and on the earth. I'm trying-- come with me and lets see how it goes....
